Description
A selective color image of the Burmese style Leizangxiang Temple near Ruili in the Dehong Prefecture of Yunnan province in the far southwest of China, close to the border with Myanmar. Elephants often feature in Buddhist temples and iconography, white elephants signify royalty and majesty. They are also often associated with Queen Maya of Sakya, the mother of Gautama Buddha, who had a vivid dream foretelling her pregnancy in which a white elephant featured prominently.
