Description
A view looking across the historic La Ribeira district to the Se do Porto cathedral, one of Porto's most important historic buildings. Sitting on a hilltop in the heart of the Old Town, it was originally built in the 12th and 13th centuries in the Romanesque style, and has since been enlarged and modified several times. Its grand entrance portal was completely remodelled by the Italian architect Niccoló Nasoni in the Baroque style in the 18th century. Situated on the steep hillsides on the northern side of the River Douro, the Historic Centre of Oporto is a UNESCO registered World Heritage Site and full of quaint narrow steets and picturesque houses. This image was taken from the Miradouro da Vitoria viewpoint in the former Jewish Quarter, which enjoys wonderful views across the city. The large white building on the right is the Paco Episcopal / Episcopal Palace, below it the Igreja de Sao Lourenco / St Lawrence church (which houses a religious art museum).
